Who is my network does _____?
Chances are you've already got hundreds of old or distant connections that could help you. Many of us don't really know those people we've connected to on linkedin or Facebook, but now we can search those connections!
On Facebook, simply search for 'handyman' (or relevant person) and results will pop up with people (usually your FB friends) at the top. If the word 'message' or 'mutual friends' appears on there then you're already friends.
You can filter by the following:
All (best option) (Your friends' posts and videos who have tagged a relevant person will show up here.)
You can easily ask those friends for a review of the relevant person.
posts (not helpful, not geographically relevant)
people (2nd best option)
photos
videos (not helpful)
marketplace (most geographically relevant, but you'll find people who want more business)
pages (not geographically relevant)
places (best option for local people)
groups (somewhat relevant, geographically)
events (not very helpful)
Let's say you wanted to see which of your friends were Kanas City Chiefs fans, ahead of the superbowl. Simply search 'Kansas City Chiefs' and click 'posts'. Filter in the 'posts from' section of the posts drop down, and select 'your friends.' Now you can see who posted about the Chiefs, and spark some friendly battles or commiserate with those friends.
On Linkedin, you can search your network and outside of your network easily. Let's say you want some help with your personal brand and social media. Type 'personal branding social media' into the search bar.
You'll see 'people' at the top, then posts below that. In the people section, you can click which connections you want to view: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd +. You can select any or all.
Another way to search your connections is through DEX, which is the best contact management software I have ever seen, and I've tried many of them. Dex integrates with Linkedin and Facebook to bring all your contacts into a place that's easy to categorize, sort, filter, and keep track of relationships and people.
Dex copilot will be able to help you introduce contacts to each other and allow you to dig deeper into your network, but right now it doesn't seem to be all that great. When I asked it who I knew that was a handyman, it didn't pull up many results it should have. Also, the introduction it wrote for connecting two of my contacts was very shallow.
Instead, I suggest adding groups, tags and 'taglines' to your contacts in Dex. Groups and views (filtered lists) are availabe on the mobile app, but tags are not.
